THE TERAI: WILDLIFE IN NEPAL
Chitwan National park Terai Arc Biosphere Nepal One-horned Indian Rhino Acme Travel
Chitwan National Park is one of the premier wildlife parks in Nepal, and lies in the heart of the Terai Arc Biosphere. But we were delighted to learn recently that it is one of the few national parks where the tiger numbers have gone up! In fact, the Nepal government is making it a goal to double the number of tigers in the park. We certainly hope that it sparks a new beginning for the conservation of the species!
Chitwan is also a natural habitat for the One-Horned Indian Rhino. The tall grassland makes it an ideal breeding ground for this critically endangered species. To experience Chitwan at it's best, we prefer the Meghauli entry to the park. The Barahi Jungle Lodge with it's sweeping views over the water is full of rustic charm and a natural feel and elegance, while the Taj Safaris lodge caters to those looking for a little more luxury.
