AN EVENING AT THE OPERA: A CULTURAL REVIVAL IN MUMBAI

The Royal Opera House in Mumbai has recently re-opened it's doors after several years of restoration. It's the only remaining Opera House in India that is still in existence.

Beautifully refurbished to reflect it's period charm, the Royal Opera House is bringing a new wave of culture into the city. The programs permeate across eastern and western aesthetics to create a unique cultural amalgamation. The performing arts take center stage with world-renown artistes performing Kathak-Flamenco; Sufi-Kathak; Raags and Rhythms and much more.

The Royal Opera House is owned by the erstwhile royal family of Gondal from Gujarat, who have restored it to it's original beauty. A guided walk through of the facility not only gives you a historic perspective but tells you about how the restoration was done. The excellent programming at the Royal Opera House complements the other cultural hub in the city, the National Center of the Performing Arts. Music, dance, art, film, photography and literature take center stage at both these venues, bringing you the very best of culture from contemporary India.
